After the Pandemic has hit in 2020, the world has witness constant changes also in the rules regulating travelling. Please find a quick reference in regards with traveling to Italy and United States.


Traveling from Italy to the United States

The Presidential Proclamation and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Order has set the requirements for air travelers to enter the United States from Italy. Below the latest requirements:

  • ALL air travelers (ages 2 and older) regardless of citizenship or vaccination status must show a negative result of a COVID-19 viral test less than 24 hours before the flight’s departure or documentation of recovery from COVID-19 no more than 90 days before the flight’s departure along with a letter from a licensed healthcare provider or a public health official stating that the individual is cleared to travel.
  • Non-immigrants must also provide proof of being fully vaccinated (booster dose is not needed) against COVID-19. Proof can be either in paper or digital format. Non-immigrants with proof of vaccination in a language other than English should contact their airline to determine if a translation is necessary.

The Presidential Proclamation and CDC’s Order do not apply to immigrants. An immigrant is any non-U.S. citizen who has a visa except K visa nonimmigrant holders. K visa nonimmigrant holders must provide proof of being fully vaccinated.

NO EXEPTIONS TO THE VACCINATIONS ARE ALLOWED unless: specific conditions apply as described below:

  • Persons on diplomatic or official foreign government travel;
  • Children under 18 years of age;
  • Persons with documented medical contraindications to receiving a COVID-19 vaccine;
  • Participants in certain COVID-19 vaccine trials.
  • Persons issued a humanitarian or emergency;
  • Persons with valid visas (excluding B-1 business or B-2 tourism visas) who are citizens of a foreign country with limited COVID-19 vaccine availability.
  • Members of the U.S. Armed Forces or their spouses or children (under 18 years of age);
  • Sea crew members traveling with to a C-1 and D nonimmigrant visa; and
  • Persons whose entry would be in the national interest, as determined by the Secretary of State, Secretary of Transportation, or Secretary of Homeland Security (or their designees).

Individuals may have to attest to their exception and be prepared to provide evidence of the exception (Children under 2 years of age do not need to attest). A parent or other authorized person may attest on a passenger who is under 18 years of age, or is unable to sign their own attestation.

Based on the category of the exception, individuals may be subjected to testing, quarantine, and self-isolating upon arrival in the United States. Individuals that will stay in the United States for longer than 60 days may need to set arrangements to be vaccinated within the 60 days.


Traveling from the United States to Italy

 

The Minister of Health in Italy issued an ordinance in 2021 listing the requirements for people traveling from the United States to Italy. Travelers must fulfill the following requirements to enter Italy from the United States:

  • Complete the Passenger Locator Form located at https://app.euplf.eu/#/
  • A completed self-declaration form located at
    https://www.esteri.it/mae/resource/doc/2020/08/modulo_rientro_da_estero__26_08_20_inglese.pdf
  • A negative molecular PCR test performed within 72 hours prior of arrival or a rapid antigen test result carried out within 24 hours of arrival AND one of the following:
    • An Anti-COVID 19 vaccination certificate, or
    • A medical certificate confirming recovery from COVID dated no more than six months before departure. The certificates can be either digital or paper format and must be in Italian, English, Spanish, or French.
  • Travelers who cannot provide a vaccination or recovery certificate will have to self-isolate for 5 days on arrival for and perform a molecular PCR or rapid antigen test at the end of the isolation.
  • Children less than 6 years of age are exempt from the pre-departure testing and from quarantine upon arrival.
